autumn/fall and proper usage

autumn: a drive through the berkshires in October. (aka/the new england cruise for those of you who insist on cruising.)

fall: your fb feed filled with other people’s photos of fall foliage.

fall: raking leaves when you’d rather be doing anything else.

autumn: jumping into the pile of raked leaves/the smell of an autumn bonfire.  (fall can turn into autumn without notice.)

DSC07848autumn: gabardine and tartan plaids.

fall: why didn’t you bring a scarf/hat/gloves with you?

autumn: a brisk walk home in the late afternoon with long shadows, cold noses, rosy cheeks.

fall: cleaning the gutters/taking the screens out and putting in the storm windows in.

autumn: the first snow.

fall: the second snow.
