the moments you remember

i’ll always be the tallest one.

001without the photographic evidence and the insistence of my friend, f.c.r. (center, above), i would never have remembered that we went camping a week after the rapid city flood of 1972 (another harrowing story best saved for another time). we had ‘tent fail’, but we probably laughed a lot in compensation for the rain, the cold, and the, did i mention the rain and the cold? read into our posture what you will, but rest assured that our friend on the right is getting it–in a kindly, ‘we love you’ manner. hats off to ken e. (seen below as the prince on the right) who had the foresight to capture this moment on film.002

this photo’s colors are as bleached out as my memory of it. rapid city children’s theater gathers around distant relatives of f.c.r. (from above camping trip and shown kneeling on the right). god, it was glorious (two summers, ’71 and ’72).
