this blog’s regular programming interrupted by today’s sunrise

the sunrises during this past week’s heat wave have been spectacular. maxfield parrish moments ran riot. (a favorite word picture, just imagine all those togas fluttering in the wind.)

today, on the first dog walk of the day, i scooped up little billy after his first pee and with blind joey running behind, dashed over to the east side of our mountaintop to witness this…

and this…

i put billy down on the rise, joey carefully wrapped his leash around my legs–they both looked to the west and the sidewalk we’d recently been on–where all of the good smells were, while i continued to snap away.

then i noticed the jet trail, diving for the sun.

while the sun crept slowly up and over the horizon line (the cleveland forest holding it’s own against the looming day.)

the dogs sat quietly, relatively anyway, joey whining “let’s go” quietly under his breath; billy happy not to be moving.

i thought for a moment that the jet trail was a meteor heading for earth.

but no, just people on their way to somewhere else. you have to ask yourself why, though, when you see the sun rise on a day like today.

the dogs finally won the battle and we trotted on down the street…but i had to stop again to look at the valley below bathed in this golden light.
