variations on the theme of three eucalyptus trunks, 2

the last time i did anything remotely ‘dangerous’ was to climb up onto the roof.

0804131517the most ‘dangerous’ part of my adventure on the roof is not being on the roof itself for once i’m there i love the vista and am as sure-footed as a mountain goat, but the transition stepping from the ladder onto the roof fills me with fear.

downsized_0804131515part of that fear comes from the fact that a few years ago, an acquaintance of mine fell from the edge of his roof as he took the step from ladder to the roof and died, his descent witnessed by his children.

downsized_0804131515asince then, i try not to find a reason to be on the roof. can i achieve what needs to be done from the relative safety of the ladder i may ask myself and the answer invariably is yes. i miss the view.

I share your fear. (I’m shuddering as I type.)
