unexpected beauty (do you know who i am?)

this plant with its tiny, papery purple flowers seeded itself just outside of the fence that marks the edge of the canyon on the west side of our home.

it’s been there for a couple of years now, growing (it’s about 30″ tall) and blooming (early spring through early summer). i water it intermittently — it doesn’t seem to mind being ignored, actually it seems to thrive on its own terms, happy to have landed where it did. i have not seen another plant like it in our neighborhood, so i’m assuming that the wind or a bird left it, a unexpected gift of beauty.
