three times agave americana (or once a century)

it only seems like a century; its reality is more likely ten to thirty years, but it’s a fool’s folly to suppose its time is in any way related to ours, so a century it might as well be.

this one is preparing to die by flowering.

but not to worry, it has extended its life through adventitious shoots (sucker!)

whatever. to me (and it is all about me) the century plant is beautiful and dangerous, it will pierce you to the quick if you get too close–not unlike love and the other impossibilities of life lived over 100 years.
