a la recherce du temps perdu

Daley Plaza, Spring 1973

Daley Plaza, Spring 1973

Boy, oh boy, I just got an earful.  Seems I spend too much time on the ‘past’ and I’m obsessed with the past (and on and on and on) which amuses me because I view the past as the gatekeeper to the future.  Literally, without the past, where would we be?  For me, capturing memories and sharing them makes them real…they occurred, particularly memories that haven’t been a shared experience with your present.   I’m convinced that memories need sharing or you lose them–that’s what makes having siblings and early childhood friends important–that continued sharing of memories.  Pardon me then as I continue…

If you need a primer on the importance of memory I recommend Proust’s A La Recherche du Temps Perdu.
